Bowls With Borders

When Madame Samm and Carol proposed this hop and Regina graciously offered the pattern to participants, I jumped at the chance to be in my first internet blog hop so excited to be chosen. I needed 9 blocks for a table runner representing our family. Base bowls represents Xavier & I, or one of our children, or the one and only official son-in-law. After some adaptation, I sewed the blocks together and was ready to sandwich and quilt when DH tells me...'No one will know who is who. You need to put their names on the blocks.' Ugh...more adaptation via embellishment when I get back on the 19th from the Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler Shop Hop 16th ,17th, & 18th . Whoo Hoo!
I'll post again (hopefully before blog hop is over) showing the finished runner with embellishments
It just fits our 9' table with one leaf so it will be perfect with two and room for great-grand children bowls on top! LOL

So let me introduce you to our family. I still think the girls will recognize their bowl as will Xavier J. since I chose based on personality/talent/interest/career . Wink!
Sunflowers for DH & Me

Billie, Alexis, and Bryan

A big loving blended family!
Second side will be for Great-Grand children!
Much Much Later!

"Life happens and you have to adapt."

I read this on one of the blogs I frequent and it really hit home especially dealing with pictures & blogger, Louisiana weather, and life.
Lately, we have had to do quite a bit of adapting from breaking air conditioners to busted water beds to hard to find waterbed mattress sizes to moving DGD#1 back to college to electricity outages to finding funds for all these and other adaptation during July and August. But I am getting good at adapting without stress. Ha Ha Ha! (Hysterical laughter.)
First try: Pretty but small pieces.
I made the first set of bowls according to the pattern and oh....my eyes couldn't adapt to the size so seam ripper had lots of unsewing to do. So first adaptation had to happen.... I wanted 12" blocks but available copier would only do 8 1/2" blocks. So my adaptation got an adaptation which was good since we are such a large blended family. 12" blocks would have been too big for the already large table. DH provided more adaptation with wanting names and embellishment! I need to pet fabric so I am off to shop hop all over South Louisiana for the next 3 days. Who knows how I will adapt to hopping with limited funds! Probably not going to do much adapting there.
Lator Gators! However I will be looking for a surprise based on adaptation for one lucky internet hopper open to all who comment and are not NO REPLY bloggers.  Only one comment per hopper please...I will draw the winner on 9/29.

  91. There is a lot of love in those bowls. I think your husband is wrong about adding the names, but I understand. I don't know anything about your family but can tell you have chosen fabrics specifically for people, a soccer player, some gardeners? a miltary person, a coffee lover, another quilter in the family, one with maaaybe an organization problem like me (love the sticky notes), or who is maaaybe too organized (OCD?)!! lol! Is a wonderful adaptation. I too had trouble with the size, and may have gotten carried away with them, who cares? It suited our wants, desires. I also understand about the other life adaptations, no air conditioning either in Mid MO heat was over 100 for almost 4 weeks, thought I was going to go go to ash or go crazy (your hysterical laughter reminded me!!) Great times aren't you glad we played along!! Cyndi
